About the TBfree programme

The TBfree programme aims to control and then eradicate bovine tuberculosis (TB) in New Zealand.

Funding the TBfree programme

Funding for the TBfree programme comes from the Government and the dairy, beef and deer farming industries.

Benefits of the TBfree programme

Eradicating TB in New Zealand will help us protect our valuable dairy, beef and deer export industry. It will also benefit our native animal and plant life.

History of TB control in New Zealand

Bovine tuberculosis (TB) probably arrived in NZ at the same time as cattle, in the mid-19th century. We’ve been working to control and eradicate it since the 1970s.
