How to update tag status

Find out how to use a CSV file to update the status of multiple tags at once in the NAIT system. For example, you may need to record that tags have been lost or damaged.

Preparing the CSV file

Your CSV file must include all of the column headings, in the correct order. This includes headings for optional columns you are leaving blank.

How to complete each column

You can leave this column blank if you provide a NAIT Visual ID.

A NAIT RFID is the unique 16-character code that relates to each animal's NAIT tag. It is provided by tag manufacturers or can be read with a scanner. Formats we accept include:

  • 00000 0 982 000196588496
  • 942 000002422333
  • 982 000161531687
  • 9.82E+14
  • 0982 000190869343.

Accepted categories are:

  • lost (Lost) — use if tag is lost. To record an animal missing use the animal update file
  • damaged (Dam) — use if tag is unused but damaged
  • unused (Unused) — use for a tag you have purchased but not yet applied to an animal
  • pre-NAIT (P) — use this to clean up your tag list, so it only shows tags that are relevant to you now.

You can leave this column blank if you provide a NAIT RFID.

A NAIT visual tag ID is the information printed on the outside of the tag.

Reading tags

You can choose to enter a reference number of your own — for example, 1, 2, 3, 4. This will make it easier for you to identify which record (row of your spreadsheet) is incorrect if you make a mistake in your CSV.
