Mary, General Manager, People, Safety and Culture: Kia ora and welcome to OSPRI. There are so many great benefits about working here, so let’s hear more from some of our people.

Rhea, Regional Partner, Hawke’s Bay: One thing I love about working out in the regions, rain or shine, are the connections I get to make with farmers and different stakeholders, that makes my job so much fun.

Tom, Support Centre Representative: One of the things I love about working at the OSPRI Support Centre, is getting to help out our farmers all over the country, over the phone, but also helping them out at Fieldays too.

Louisa, Regional Partner, Otago: Being a Regional Partner at OSPRI and a farmer as well, gives me great work-life balance. It allows me to connect with the community and help them in areas that they need it most.

James, Field Supervisor, Otago: One of the things I really enjoy about my job is I get to visit some pretty cool places. Also knowing the work we do helps protect New Zealand’s biodiversity and biosecurity.

Sandra, Veterinarian, Otago: What I really enjoy about being a vet at OSPRI is that I get to understand and learn about disease in the wildlife. We’re such a unique organisation doing things that worldwide have never been done before.

Phil, Regional Partner, Waikato: I’ve been working for OSPRI for 16 years and the thing that keeps me here are the people — the people I work with, and the people I work for, the farmers.

Jeff, Principal Advisor, Disease Management: At OSPRI I get to use my tertiary qualifications, not only to improve New Zealand’s agriculture sector, but to enhance our native biodiversity.

Jessie, Regional Partner, Taranaki: At OSPRI we have a really neat culture. Whether you’re working in the regions or at Wellington, we’re all connecting with one another to check in and see how everyone is doing.

Adrian and Damon, Software Developers: What I really enjoy about working at OSPRI is the fact that we can be challenged daily and really grow and learn new technologies, and that really comes through to the farmers who use our product.

Steve, Chief Executive: One thing I love about this organisation, as you’ve just seen, is the passion and commitment of our people. They are absolutely committed to animal disease management and delivering value to farmers. We’re small, we’re agile and we get stuff done. If that sounds like you, come join us.

Jeff, Principal Advisor, Vector Control: Oh, and I’ve got some great work stories, but you’ll have to be one of the team to hear those.

Who we're looking for

We're not just looking for people with a background in farming, pest management or biosecurity — although it can help! What we're looking for are smart, forward-thinking people who enjoy working collaboratively and want to be part of a dynamic, fast-paced organisation.

We want to hear from people of all ages, with a range of backgrounds and work experience. Our goal is to build a diverse and inclusive team to help us achieve our goals and support farmers, as well as the wider farming industry.

At OSPRI, we aspire to have the most talented people doing their best work and feeling great about being a part of the team. We work hard to provide our people with a culture and environment where they feel welcome, valued and supported. At OSPRI, every person matters.

OSPRI benefits

There are a lot of reasons to love working at OSPRI. While we take our work seriously, we also know how to make it enjoyable, and — dare we say it — fun. As we're a small organisation (with about 200 people), we get to know each other pretty well and we try to take time out from work together. Whether we're running Round the Bays, testing our knowledge in an office quiz, or raising money for charity, it's a team effort.

To celebrate our people, we offer a great employee experience that builds capability, rewards and recognises employees for their successes, and gives a strong sense of belonging. We want to ensure that our people feel recognised and valued.

We also provide our people with some useful benefits. They include:

  • competitive salaries
  • long-service leave
  • purchasing additional annual leave
