Shareholders and investors
TBfree New Zealand Ltd and NAIT Ltd are fully owned subsidiaries of OSPRI New Zealand, a not-for-profit company overseen by a Board of Directors. The company has responsibilities to the Minister for Primary Industries and is accountable to its shareholders.
Dairy New Zealand
Dairy New Zealand is the agency that represents all New Zealand dairy farmers. Dairy NZ provides services including, but not restricted to, advocacy, policy representation, research and development, extension, economics, and development of farmer and supply chain resources and education.
Beef+Lamb New Zealand
Beef+Lamb New Zealand Ltd is the farmer-owned industry organisation representing New Zealand's sheep and beef farmers. Beef+Lamb NZ provides services including, but not restricted to:
- advocacy
- policy representation
- research and development
- extension
- economics
- development of farmer and supply chain resources and education.
Deer Industry New Zealand (DINZ)
DINZ is responsible for promoting and assisting the development of the New Zealand deer industry. DINZ has a worldwide co-ordination role through research and promotion of quality products derived from deer, especially venison, velvet and co-products.
Ministry for Primary Industries
The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is tasked with:
- maximising export opportunities
- improving agricultural productivity
- ensuring the food we produce is safe
- increasing sustainable resource use
- protecting New Zealand from biological risks.
The ministry advises on animal health policy including:
- animal disease surveillance and control
- emergency preparedness and response
- chemical residues
- livestock identification
- animal welfare.
MPI contributes to NAIT funding (30%) and TBfree (40%) programmes on behalf of the Government. The remaining funding is provided through levies from beef, dairy and deer industries.
