Sam McIvor joined OSPRI in August 2024 as Chief Executive.

He was brought up on a hill-country sheep and beef farm in the Manawatū. His career has spanned the value chain (from farm to consumer) in the food and agribusiness sector. This includes Chief Executive Officer roles with NZPork, PrestonCorp, Beef + Lamb New Zealand and the NZ Meat Board. Sam also spent some time contracting to OSPRI, when his knowledge and passion for the organisation were ignited.

Sam came to OSPRI to make a difference for farmers, the primary industry and New Zealand. He sees OSPRI as playing a crucial role as a centre of excellence for disease surveillance, management, eradication and traceability.

Sam has degrees in agriculture and business, and has held a number of directorships.

Based in Wellington, Sam likes to spend his weekends with family, enjoys watching or playing sport, and is a keen mountain-biker.
