All movements of NAIT animals must be recorded in the NAIT system to ensure all NAIT animals are able to be traced for biosecurity purposes. The PICA meat processor is responsible for ensuring all movements of NAIT animals on and off their NAIT number are recorded within 48 hours of the movement taking place.
As well as recording the movement of animals, the PICA meat processor must record the slaughter information for each animal as they are slaughtered.
Meat processor accounts have access to kill upload functionality within the NAIT system which records the movement and slaughter details at the same time.
When receiving animals from a PICA, an accredited meat processor is able record a single receiving movement that completes both components of the movement on behalf of the PICA. This means that the sending PICA needs only to ensure their animals are fitted with NAIT tags, registered in the NAIT system and provide their correct NAIT number so the meat processor can record the movement and slaughter of the animal.
