Animal updates

A PICA is responsible for declaring livestock death, loss, or intended export of NAIT animals in the NAIT online system.

Click here to find out how to update an animal.

Animal Death / Home kill

If an animal dies on your property, either naturally or as a home kill, the animal RFID must be updated to have a status of dead in the NAIT system.

You will be asked to provide the date of death, how the animal died and whether the carcass has any defects.

Missing animals

If an animal is declared to be missing, you can update the animal RFID to have a status of ‘missing’ in the NAIT online system.

You will be asked to provide the date the animal was declared missing.

If the animal is found, you can update the RFID to have a status of ‘found’ and will be asked to provide a date the animal was identified.

Tag replacements

If an animal has lost a NAIT RFID tag, the animal must be re-tagged with a replacement NAIT approved RFID tag.

  • If you are able to identify the original NAIT RFID or visual ID tag number, the replace tag function can be used to link the original tag to the new tag in the NAIT online system. Keeping a record of secondary visual panel tags or production tags linked to an animal’s RFID number can help you to identify a lost tag.
  • If the original tag number is unknown, you will need to re-register the animal in the NAIT online system with the new tag number. The original tag will remain active ‘on animal’ until the replacement is completed in the NAIT online system.

NAIT replacement tags are printed with a NAIT number or dairy participant code and the 15-digit RFID number of the tag.

If you know the original tag number of the animal, you may request to purchase a replacement tag with a duplicate visual ID. The RFID cannot be duplicated, therefore all tags with duplicate visual IDs must be recorded in a tag replacement in the NAIT online system to link the RFID number of the original tag with the new and retain lifetime traceability for the animal.

Live export

As the PICA for live export, your only requirement is to record a movement in the NAIT online system when the animals are moved off your NAIT location. The movement must be recorded to the NAIT number at the quarantine or export facility.
