All movements of NAIT animals must be recorded in the NAIT system to ensure all NAIT animals are able to be traced for biosecurity purposes. The PICA farmer is responsible for ensuring all movements of NAIT animals on and off the NAIT number are recorded within 48 hours of the movement taking place.
It is equally the responsibility of the sending PICA and the receiving PICA to ensure the animal movement is recorded in the NAIT system. The sending PICA is responsible for recording a sending movement and the receiving PICA is responsible for recording a receiving movement.
There are two types of movements that can be recorded in the NAIT system:
Sending movements
When animals are sent off your property, a sending movement should be recorded in the NAIT system to reflect this. Click here to find out how to record a movement in the NAIT system.
If the receiving PICA has already recorded a matching receiving movement in the NAIT system, this will appear in your NAIT account as an action required movement. From here you can confirm that the receiving PICA has entered the correct detail and confirm the movement. This confirmation will create the matching sending movement in the system for you. Receiving movements
When animals are sent to your property, a receiving movement should be recorded in the NAIT system to reflect this. Click here to find out how to record a movement in the NAIT system.
If the sending PICA has already recorded a matching sending movement in the NAIT system, this will appear in your NAIT account as an action required movement. From here you can confirm that the sending PICA has entered the correct detail and confirm the movement. This confirmation will create the matching receiving movement in the system for you. Movements to an event (A&P show or field days)
The organizer of an event must be registered in the NAIT system and will be issued with an event NAIT number. This NAIT number should be used to create a sending movement to the event and a receiving movement when the animal is returned after the event.

Exemptions from movement recording
Sending animals to an accredited meat processor or sale yard
When sending animals to an accredited meat processor or sale yard you do not need to record the sending movement. The accredited organization has received training from NAIT and is approved to record the sending movement on behalf of the farmer.
School pet days
The risks associated with local small scale movements to attend pet days are considered minimal. Therefore movements to a school pet day do not need to be recorded in the NAIT system.
