OSPRI tool updates TBfree aerial 1080 operation status

Date 12 April 2019

Animal health and traceability leader OSPRI is a key part of New Zealand’s biosecurity framework as manager of the TB eradication programme TBfree.

Keeping farmers and land users informed about the status of its TBfree aerial 1080 pest control operations has been made easier with an online status table of aerial operations.

The manager of New Zealand’s bovine TB eradication programme has brought infected herds down from 1700 at the peak 20 years ago to fewer than 30 today. It continues to target TB-spreading possums in large, difficult-to-access areas with aerial 1080 operations and is reporting the status of those operations online.

The regularly updated TBfree Pest Control Operations Status Table tracks the progress of each of OSPRI’s 17 aerial operations from planning to completion.

The table shows when operations are taking place and advises when accessing wilderness areas is a risk for dogs. It is linked to the Department of Conservation’s Pesticides Summary map.
