WE'RE MAKING SOME IMPORTANT CHANGES TO NAIT
In response to the NAIT review and feedback from farmers to make the system easier to use, we’re making some important changes that affect how NAIT user and location information is provided. Due to our latest upgrade we need you to update your NAIT details and farm locations, including run-offs and grazing blocks. Updating your details is straightforward and ensures that the information you provide about the location(s) at which your animals are kept is accurate. This is your contribution to future-proofing NAIT and ensuring effective traceability of animals to protect your business, lifestyle, and fellow farmers. All NAIT system users will receive a guide on how to update your details which can also be downloaded here. This must be completed by March 31, 2019. More information
NAIT A PRIORITY FOR ALL FARMERS
Being at the centre of a Mycoplasma bovis scare was a traumatic experience for Bernadette and Alistair Hunt and the lessons they learned, reinforced the value of livestock traceability. Whether it’s your farm, the farmer next door or at the other end of the country, recording all livestock movements in NAIT is essential and protects us all says Bernadette.
CHANGE TO TB TESTING SERVICES
AsureQuality Limited (AQ) has been confirmed as the sole supplier of TB testing services for cattle and deer nationwide. This change will take effect from 1 March 2019. The decision secures the future of OSPRI’s TB testing activities and creates efficiencies for your investment in the TBfree programme. It follows a recent tender process undertaken by OSPRI.
MOVING FAWNS OFF-FARM?
If you are weaning fawns, remember they must be NAIT tagged within six months or before they move off-farm - whichever comes first. It is also the PICA’s responsibility to ensure all deer are registered in the NAIT online system. Exemptions apply only to fallow deer and trophy stags on registered game estate.
OSPRI AT FIELD DAYS
The next few months, you’ll see OSPRI staff at regional field days. If you have questions or need advice, our friendly Extension Team can help. Our first field days event is in Northland at the end of the month. Look out for the NAIT and TBfree teams. More information
UPCOMING CONSULTATION ON NAIT STANDARDS
OSPRI encourages all PICAs to get involved in the NAIT device standards consultation which is scheduled for release in mid-February. This follow’s MPI’s recent consultation on the NAIT regulations. Keep an eye out for updates in the next OSPRI news or our Facebook page.
MANAGING INFORMATION PROVIDER RELATIONSHIPS
As part of our ongoing work to improve the NAIT system, Information Providers (IP) can no longer assign themselves to a farmer or PICA account. This change does not affect Information Providers already assigned to farmer or PICA accounts.
