Information for farmers in the North Canterbury-Marlborough MCA

Date 18 November 2016

If your farm is in the quake affected area, primarily being north of the Waiau River and south of the township of Ward, you may be experiencing difficulties due to earthquake damage to property or roads.

Should you need to move stock as a result of the impacts from the earthquake, OSPRI is currently waiving pre-movement testing and the need to apply for an exemption. This is on the provision that full details of the movement are recorded under any means available to farmers, and OSPRI’s contact centre is notified.

Under TBfree’s National Operational Plan (NOP), civil disasters such as the North Canterbury earthquakes, are a reason for an exemption from testing requirements for cattle and deer out of movement control areas (Policy 15, section 2.1.3).

Routine and pre movement TB testing will be put on hold for earthquake-affected areas (farms north of the Waiau River and south of the township of Ward) until farm infrastructure allows for the resumption of normal operations.

Farmers who have any questions regarding the movement, or TB testing of their herds, are urged to ring the OSPRI Contact Centre on 0800 482 463.
