DNA strain typing tracks source of TB

Date 23 April 2018

OSPRI and its research partners use the DNA strain type of TB infections to pinpoint the source of disease.

The strain type helps TBfree programme managers decide what action to take to combat infection and where to deploy resources.

If TB infection in livestock has come via wildlife, is possum control required? If an infection is related to the movement of stock, are movement controls required?

The power of DNA strain typing and the science behind it are outlined in a new factsheet, one of a growing library of information about the workings of the TBfree programme.
