Deer pilot programme introduces Risk Based Testing

Disease management lead Kevin Crews explains how the new era of risk-based testing being trialled through a pilot programme with North Island deer farmers. 

The trial involves using post mortem carcass inspection as the more efficient method of disease surveillance at this stage of the eradication journey, and a better useof deer farmers’ investment. In four areas of the North Island deer will no longer be TB herd tested but proceed directly to slaughter premises for post mortem carcass inspection.
