Deer Industry New Zealand (DINZ) is responsible for promoting and assisting the development of the New Zealand deer industry. DINZ has a worldwide co-ordination role through research and promotion of quality products derived from deer, especially venison, velvet and co-products.

The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is tasked with maximising export opportunities, improving agricultural productivity, ensuring the food we produce is safe, increasing sustainable resource use and protecting New Zealand from biological risks. The ministry advises on animal health policy including animal disease surveillance and control, emergency preparedness and response, chemical residues, livestock identification and animal welfare.
MPI contributes to the funding of the NAIT (30 per cent) and TBfree (40 per cent) programmes on behalf of the government. The remaining funding is provided through levies from beef, dairy and deer industries.
